16-month (and one week) milestones

So, a lot has happened in the last month. I have enough teeth now to demand bites out of Mommy's apples. I don't get much food but it's so much fun to scrape a little apple off (and to suck out as much juice as is possible). I have three more teeth, all on the right hand side of my mouth (but I'm still asymmetrical).

I'm figuring a lot of stuff out. One of my favorite toys right now is my shape sorter. It's a cube with holes for nine different shapes in it. The circles, of course, are my favorite, but I can put all nine shapes into the cube. The diamond is my least favorite. I also know by name circle, star, crescent, triangle, and square.

I currently have two favorite books: "Moo, Baa, La, La, La" and "Nighttime on the Farm." Moo, Baa, La, La, La was a present from Uncle Charles's Mommy. I make the cow noise and sing "la, la, la" with those silly pigs. Nighttime on the Farm has lots of baby farm animals on ribbons that I get to tuck into bed. I love books. I sat in my room for 15 minutes this morning all by myself just so that I could look at books.

I also love my crib. When I wake up in the morning, or from a nap, I like to roll around in there. I play with my turtle toy and I play peek-a-boo with my blanket from Grandma Arlene. The only bad thing is that sometimes my horsie gets out of the crib and I can't get him back by myself.

At school, I have graduated to eating at the big girls' table. I really like sitting with Jaydn and trying to use my fork and spoon. I'm really good at drinking all my milk out of the sippy cup.

I also decided to walk. I tested it out a few times on Thursday (2/21) when my teacher wasn't looking. Four-to-five steps went fine. I tried with Mommy and Daddy that night, too. But, I wouldn't do it unless they closed their eyes first. I did some more trial runs at school on Friday and decided it was time to do the deed on Saturday. When it was time for bed I walked all the way from Mommy's study into my bedroom where Daddy was waiting for me. Today, I started practicing for the Indy 500, doing laps through the kitchen, living room, and dining room (see video below). It's much easier to take a book to Mommy or Daddy now that I'm not shoving it along the floor while I crawl. I enjoyed following Mommy around upstairs today. We went into all the bedrooms and bathrooms before Mommy got tired of me following her. I walk with excellent control, can do corners well, and have fallen only once (and even then I was in control). I can't wait to show my teachers at school!

I had a fun visit with Grandma Gail and Grandpa Joe last weekend. They bought me the bestest thing ever: a table and chairs! I quickly learned how to get in and out of the chairs (they're a bit high for me) and I love coloring at the table. Sometimes I put Paddington Bear or back-up Horsie in the other chair to color with me. I also like to kiss the pictures of elephants on the chairs. Too bad I can't hug them very well!

My big goal for next month: WORDS and learning to sleep on a COT at school.

I've started taking an interest in the fine arts. I'm going to get to do music at some point soon, but for the time being I'm working with another medium.

If my name were Jackson Pollack, people would be paying millions for these. You can have your own Helen Levy original for 50 cents. I'll autograph one for you for a dollar.

Mmmm. New food

I admit it--I love food. I'll eat just about anything. My favorites are rice, peas, broccoli, steak, chicken, Grandma Arlene's sour cream pound cake, Grandma Gail's banana bread, Grandma Stephanie's chicken and rice casserole. Really, if it can be digested, I'll try it.

Of course, I don't like everything...

Look Mom! No Hands!

Look at what I've been doing lately. It's just a matter of time until I start chasing Ziggy.

On the Quadcycle

This is a toy that I've started to be interested in. My across-the-street neighbors, Grover and Mary, loaned it to me. One of these days, I'll figure out how to make it move.
